The Jacksons began their new church plant in February of 2014. Formerly known as the Agape Christian Ministries Worship Center, Inc., Agape Baptist Church is located in the West Ward of Newark, New Jersey, which has a high volume of low-income residents with a mix of African-American and Hispanic residents. The West Ward has struggled in recent years with elevated rates of crime, particularly violent crime. Newark has many low-income housing development buildings to assist families who need subsidized housing. Newark is an urban city located in Essex County which is the largest city in New Jersey. Newark has 4 colleges with various campuses throughout the city. Newark is well known for the performing arts in which they have the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark Symphony Hall, and various shows held at the Prudential Center.
Even though the Jacksons have a developed a small core group with “Agape” they have been developing a disciple-making system that encourages the disciples in the church to create and develop other disciples. Agape is known as a FUN, LOVING, BIBLE-BASED CHURCH, with people from all walks of life. Agape has weekly services on Sundays at 12:30pm and a Women’s Ministry Prayer Line every Tuesday at 8pm. The Women’s Ministry prayer line was developed by Lady J and the prayer line invites other women who wouldn’t come to church to develop a relationship with other women and have their prayer needs met. “Agape” has a program entitled “The House of Agape Family Program” which helps people in the community receive various social services. “Agape” may assist everyone in this program but the main target are the homeless, ex-offenders, young adults, and single mothers. This program enables the community and the church to work together.
1. For dedicated leaders for this ministry.
2. An effective Stewardship system.
3. For God’s Will to be done by sending dedicated people to this ministry who will help build up the ministry.
Pastor J. has been able to establish numerous relationships with different organizations. Some organizations include the New Hope Community Village, Newark Leadership Academy, Georgia King Village just to name a few. Doing this time Pastor J has seen men and women coming to Christ who never came to Christ before. So we at Agape are happy that lives are being saved and changed for the Kingdom!
